Little Rock Event Celebrates Juneteenth

 

Juneteenth: the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States, according to www.juneteenth.com.

Little Rock honors this historic day on Thursday, June 17 at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site, along with Power 92 Jams and the UALR Department of Theatre Arts and Dance, are sponsoring Invisible Chains: A Juneteenth Celebration of True Independence, beginning at 7 p.m.

Performers, poets and dancers depict the trials, tribulations and triumphs of African Americans spanning from the Civil War to Civil Rights. Choreographer Aeren J. Bates’ Invisible Chains is the featured performance. Special guest artists include nationally renowned poets A.P.O.L.L.O. and Krysis, dramatic interpreter Sean Freeman, musical artists Q Note & Griff, and Authur C. Smith, Jr.

The event is free. The UALR University Theatre is located at 2801 South University.
