Corps Offers Holiday Lock Tours at Some Arkansas River Locks and Dams

If you’re looking for something that’s not your ordinary Independence Day activity, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has the answer. The Russellville Project Office offers a series of free lock tours, July 3-5. They highlight the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System and the hydropower and recreational opportunities offered.
 

Here is the lock tour schedule:

July 3
 
12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., Dardanelle Lock & Dam near Russellville
9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., Ozark Lock & Dam near Ozark 

 

July 4

10 a.m. and noon, Ormond Lock & Dam near Morrilton
10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m., Trimble Lock & Dam near Barling 

July 5
 
10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., Murray Lock & Dam at North Little Rock
10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m., Trimble Lock & Dam near Barling

Lock tours are open to the public, but group size is limited, pre-registration is required. Participants must show photo identification prior to start of the tour. An adult must accompany all children. Each tour is led by a Corps ranger and lasts about an hour.

The Murray Lock Tour will meet near the Big Dam Bridge at Cook’s Landing in North Little Rock. The Dardanelle Lock Tour will meet at the Arkansas River Visitor Center in Russellville. The Ormond Lock, Ozark Lock, and Trimble Lock tours will meet in front of each lock and dam’s gated entrance.
